Why Satan Opposes God's Children: Lessons from Ezekiel 28:11–17

Satan opposes the people of God because we are called to reflect God's glory in our daily lives. As Christians, our faith, obedience, love, and hope point others toward Christ. Scripture teaches that the devil continually seeks to oppose God's purposes (1 Peter 5:8), but his power is limited because God alone is sovereign.

Ezekiel 28:11–17 uses the imagery of the king of Tyre while describing a figure whose pride and downfall have long been understood by many Christians as reflecting the fall of Satan. The passage describes one who was created with beauty and wisdom but became corrupted through pride. Instead of honoring the Creator, he desired exaltation for himself, and that pride led to judgment.

Pride is one of the greatest spiritual dangers because it causes people to rely on themselves instead of God. Satan's downfall serves as a warning to us not to seek glory for ourselves but to remain humble before the Lord. God is the Creator of all things, and every gift, ability, and blessing comes from Him alone.

As followers of Christ, we may experience spiritual opposition because we belong to God's kingdom. Jesus told His disciples that they would face trials in this world, but He also promised that He has overcome the world (John 16:33). Our confidence is not based on fear of the enemy but on the victory of Christ through His death and resurrection.

Rather than focusing on the power of Satan, Scripture encourages us to focus on God's greatness. The devil is a created being and is not equal to God. He cannot overrule God's plans or separate us from the love of Christ when we remain faithful to Him. Through prayer, obedience to God's Word, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can stand firm against temptation and spiritual attacks.

Ezekiel 28 reminds us that pride leads to destruction, while humility leads us closer to God. As Christians, we are called to reflect the character of Christ by walking in faith, love, and obedience. When we keep our eyes on God instead of fear, we grow stronger spiritually and become faithful witnesses of His grace.

Our calling is not to replace anyone in heaven but to glorify God with the lives He has given us. The Lord created us with purpose, redeemed us through Christ, and invites us to live in the light of His truth every day. As we remain rooted in His Word, we can confidently trust that God is greater than every challenge we face and that His promises will never fail.
